Saurabh Shukla’s forthcoming comedy Raat Gayi Baat Gayi has been making all the buzz, the film is said to be inspired by the super-successful Hollywood flick The Hangover.
Saurabh who is back after a 5-year hiatus with Raat Gayi Baat Gayi said, “I was disheartened after Mudda and Chehraa. I didn't want to make movies just for the heck of it. But I am making up lost time with Raat Gayi Baat Gayi and my other projects.” The film starring Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Neha Dhupia, Iravati Harshe, Anu Menon, Dalip Tahil and Navneet Nishan is a quirky comedy about Rahul (Rajat Kapoor) waking up on a very heavily hung-over morning with his wife Mitali’s (Iravati Harshe) constant cribbing. However, he remembers snatches of a conversation he had the previous night, at a party, with a stunning young woman, Sophia (Neha Dhupia). The part where they ended up in bed, making crazy love to each other, remains hazy.
The film, which has already won the Best Film Award at HBO's New York South Asian International Film Festival, 2009, is being promoted in a rather upfront and hilarious manner. A 'No More Hangover Kit', was given out to members of the press recently as a takeaway. The kit contains, among other things, a packet each of Party Smart pills, anti-headache pills, I-Pill, condoms, Tang sachet and some mint. Lead actor Rajat Kapoor said, "The kit is helpful for sure. I mean forewarned is forearmed - if you know you are going to a party and it promises to be a wild party - and there is every chance that you would get drunk- then why not take a pill that would prevent the horrific hangover the next day."
So is the film inspired by The Hangover? To this, director Saurabh Shukla says, “It's untrue; both these films are nothing alike. Let me clarify that I started Raat Gayi Baat Gayi much before The Hangover was made. I thought of Raat Gayi Baat Gayi when I attended a certain house party a while back. I was feeling terribly bored and kept staring at people aimlessly. The next morning, I narrated the episode to Rajat, who suggested that I write a story revolving around a party. That's how the story of Raat Gayi Baat Gayi took shape.”
